In terms of feeding the donks it has been quite a tricky early summer this year. The weather means that the grass seems to have grown very suddenly and very richly so until I had chance to sort the electric fence out they had to spend longer than usual shut in their yard looking over the gate at the lush green grass on the other side of the fence, or so to speak. Jack seems to get the most impatient, and on this occasion when I went to let them out for their allotted hour or two he stood nudging the gate handle with his nose in case I had forgotten which bit I needed to address my attention to in order to open the gate.
Today Graham and I put on a pop-up 'Greasy Spoon' cafe in our village hall. This is the main reason for me not posting or commenting much this week. The shopping, planning etc has taken me ages and I have to say it has been quite stressful given that we had no idea how many people, if any, were going to turn up.
It was a good morning, and in the two hours we were open we had over 70 people turn up. Most of them had the 'full monty' of bacon, eggs, sausage, black pudding, beans, tomatoes and mushrooms together will toast, tea or coffee and apple or orange juice, all for the bargain price of £6.50.
Hard work! but we made £175 for the village hall and play area funds.
What a fantastic idea, I Amon the village hall fund raising committee and we have just had a ceilidh. It was a fantastic night and raised quire a good amount of money in the process. May consider the greasy spoon option.
Love this little sorrowful nose! Like suede! Great POV.
Great work on your village cafe, sounds a great success, all good community spirit which is what makes villages survive!
Do 'donks' get 'staggers'? Too much rich green grass which can kill cows.
Your village must love you - stalwarts of the community and fun things as well -that's my idea of breakfast. Your donk is doing a horse impression here - a very elegant nose.
@lucypics we are very lucky here Lucy, because so many people take part in things both as customers, helpers and organisers. The Ceilidh sounds like a great idea. Graham and I put on a Burns' night each year with a band and a caller doing Scottish dancing, that one is always a good laugh and more profitable than the breakfast because haggis etc are so cheap. We could definitely have made more on the breakfasts, but it's not all about the money is it?
Such a clever little donk. :-) That nose needs a soft pat and maybe a kiss.
It's so funny to hear about you setting up a 'greasy spoon'. I've always thought of that term as being totally American. LOL
Glad you had a successful event and raised money for your hall.

That's a lot of work you did...congrats on the success.
Congrats on the 'Greasy Spoon Cafe' fundraiser. Lots of work, but sounds like it really went well.

Be sure and let us know when he figures out how to open it himself. I fear that day is coming. ;-)
