you may need to view large to see what I am talking about
you know those days when you have no inspiration? You feel sure that there are photos there for the taking, but you just can't see them? Well I had one of those mornings in Swanage when I dropped the 'fat blokes' off yesterday for their sponsored walk. Fortunately, some kind and considerate soul had apparently anticipated my lack of vision and labelled this mural (or should I say 'trompe l'ouile - well I would if I knew how to spell it) to help me out.
Graham, Angus and I, together with our friends and their two boys had a brief stroll along the beach in Weymouth, checked out of the hotel and drove to the Portland area to have a bit of a look around. We walked a little way along Chesil Beach. Such a bleak place. I know that some people love a bit of bleakness, but I just don't do it very well, so I was quite pleased to leave.
I had found a place on the internet called the 'Crab House Cafe', basically a big shack near the beach where the menu changes twice a day depending on what is brought in on the boats. Absolutely fantastic! The boys all had crabs which came supplied with hammers, bibs and various tools for extracting the meat from wonderfully fresh, and extremely reasonably priced crustaceans.
We drove home straight after lunch and it was great to see Sam. My parents informed me that he is perfectly capable of running the show at home in our absence. Apparently he had made pancakes for everyone each morning and taken control of feeding the animals, bless his heart.
Your Sam sounds a gem...so reliable!! I don't do bleak either but the eating place sounds wonderful!! Hope all goes well tomorrow!!
I can see the drawing but is that a rat on the side by the stairs?
Definitely a rat, whether real or imagined or drawn (hung and quartered, maybe not!)
Jan, you haven't read the book, 'On Chesil Beach', then - bleak it is!
Well done for the shot!
@quietpurplehaze I have read it. I absolutely love Ian McEwan, but that was my least favourite of his books. I just found myself wanting to take the characters by the scruffs of their necks and give them a good shake!

I agree with what you say!
Agree about McEwan's couple needing their heads banged together.
