I took my car for an MOT and service this morning at the garage about a mile outside the village. They usually run me home after I have dropped the car off but it was such a lovely morning that I decided to walk home through the fields.
The local dairy farmer is currently grazing a lot of young cattle at the bottom of the valley and I took my time to walk slowly through them. So much easier without the dog.
When I got home I went via the donkeys' field where I found myself installing a new battery on the quad bike. A fiddly, greasy job that I really didn't fancy doing. I must admit I did spend a while mid-installation thinking that I wish I was one of those women who spend time time fretting about how I am going to get through the next two weeks while the person does my pedicure is away, rather than how we are going to get the straw into the hay store if the quad doesn't start when I have put the new battery in.
The quad started. The straw is in.
Still haven't managed to paint my toenails all summer tho'
This is a wonderful composition Jan and I'm glad you don't spend time on your pedicures -I don't either and if we did we wouldn't have such wonderful photos to look at on 365. This is much more interesting and I love the way you have captured the look on this cow's face - Fav
Your recent animal shots have been spot on, i'd say you have had a moooooooooooooooooooving experience with them!!!! LOL
Congrats on the PP with this one too. FAV
Oh but they don't have sunshine and lovely calves in pedicure places and nails done basically make you incapable (I suspect that's the idea). Having said that I painted mine quite effectively with 'Gentle Sky' emulsion yesterday. Can't tempt you with the September London meet??
@happypat they are very beautiful aren't they Pat. These were very friendly too. I kept turning round to find them licking my back or arm. Some of them had rings through their noses, I was going to ask you if you know why they do that just to some of them.
@jantan They put rings in their noses if they have a bad habit of sucking the udders of their group. just like babies they have the sucking habit but can do a lot of damage to a young cows 'bag' as we used to call their udders ...pulling it out of shape, making one teat bigger than the others & sometimes even making milk come. A newly springing for calving heifer with an uneven udder is not what you want! Sometimes they have a device that goes into the nostrils, shaped flat but with sort of prongs on...no heifer will stand still & let a calf suck with that in their nose!!!
@happypat@judithg thanks Pat. That's really interesting. I had wondered if it was something to do with them being picked out for the show ring, but was way off!
I had thought about the London meet up, but am sure that I have got something on on that day, but can't for the life of me think what it is! Will have to see.

I have a friend who always calls any cow he sees, Mooo-na Lisa, which always makes me think of the Nat King Cole song.
You got a VERY lovely shot of this pretty cow. Fav
