It's not only me who is celebrating a big birthday this year (I'll be 50 in December). One of my friends from the village is going to be 60 in December, and another turned 40 a few months ago, so today we had a joint 40th/50th/60th party to celebrate. It was fancy dress with a 50's, 60's and 70's theme and a retro-style buffet including, cheese and pineapple on sticks, vol au vents and spam sandwiches amongst other such delights. The village hall was transformed with glitter curtains, glitter balls and the addition of a beautiful marquee, and there was a disco and bar.
It was such fun and, as usual here, everyone really went to town on their costumes which ranged from all four members of ABBA, Noddy and Big Ears, lots of hippies, Elvises and other rock and rollers. Sam went as Elvis in a white jump suit and wig (can't believe he didn't bottle out of wearing it), and Angus made a fairly convincing, if slightly pale, Jimmy Hendrix.
Lots of fun, and lots of clearing up (and a bit of a headache) the next day!
I love the idea of a con-joined retro party. What a great way for you ALL to celebrate milestone birthdays.
This shot really captures the disco vibe. :-)
It only gets better! I promise.
