these galls are found on the underside of oak leaves at this time of year and are caused by the female gall wasp (Neuroterus quercusbaccarum). Each one contains a single developing larva. Nature's sequins I guess.
A day largely comprised of driving children around - well over a hundred miles in total.
Angus went to see some friends in Stratford and Sam had to get to school to be taken to Bromsgrove for a rugby match. He has informed me by text that the final score was 72-10, but not said whether his team won or lost, so is either going to be very happy or very fed up when I pick him up.
Just got to go an pick them up soon, then going round to a friend's house this evening to watch a film - didn't even ask what film it was because I really fancy a girlie night out.
Graham has been doing lots of outside jobs including separating Elsie's piglets from her. She is having a great time eating grass in her new run, not sure how they are going to feel when they fancy a quick drink of milk tho.
Is this the early stages of an oak apple forming? Fabulous natural world shot Jan, I dissected an oak apple the other day and then felt horrified that I had cut through the grub :-(
