Actually today I could also have taken pictures and called them 'donk shaming' and 'husband shaming.'
The latter because when I went to let the donks out this morning I discovered that the hay store had not been locked properly when Graham put the quad away last night, and the former because the donks had removed a whole bale of hay from it and spread it all over the yard. Every other scrap of hay in the store had been eaten. I arrived to find them standing in the middle of the opened up bale looking very fat, and very content. It is weird because they do seem to have a sense of what is right and what is wrong because as soon as they saw me they scarpered.
We eventually got Angus back from his friend's house where he had stayed the night on New Years Eve. My suspicion that we would probably never hear what had happened at the party that he had abandoned the previous evening was actually unfounded, and I found myself receiving more information than I would actually have liked to hear. Suffice is to say drugs, fireworks, angry neighbours and the police were involved. Terrifying, but comforting (a) to know that as soon as things 'kicked-off' he and his friends left and went into town, only returning later to get their things, and (b) that he told us what had happened.
Graham and I met up with some friends for a quick New Years Day drink in the pub, and then it was home for duck breast in a comfortingly retro orange sauce for dinner. Yum!
New Year virtuousness always starts on the Monday after the first Sunday in January in this village because one of our neighbours always hosts a big 'Sparkly Sunday' (the day before 'Miserable Monday') party, hence the alcohol and the unhealthy food. Gather ye rosebuds and all that........
with respect to the party... yikes! at least he's talking to you - on balance i expect that's better than if he wasn't... but still... ugh... i am so not looking forward to dealing with this stuff...
Ah yes ... the gutted bedding caper. We have suffered through at least three of those in recent memory. Unfortunately, we have also suffered through the angry neighbors, police capers! Oh, and we did share a few hours at the pub yesterday. We seem to be living parallel lives on different sides of the world LOL ... well, no donks here though! Hoping for a more mellow 2014 ... mellow sounds very good to me right now.
Was your dog upset that he did not get a new bed from Santa under the tree? :) Your focus is great, and you certainly captured the guilty face! Proud of your son and his friends for doing the right thing... Happy New Year!
I would say that Angus deserves a reward, for coming clean and doing the right thing. It is great that he didn't give in to peer pressure and instead did what he knew to be the right thing. Congratulations to you for instilling great wisdom in him.
For shame! My dogs have never done that! (ya, right). As for Angus, isn't it rewarding when your kid does something that makes you realize that you've been doing your job right? I love my kids, and I'm so glad that they are so much smarter and more responsible than I was at their age (if anyone tells them that I'll deny it). And we've had both our horses and cows get into the hay barns (one horse got into the neighbor's and ate almost all his grain, I thought for sure he was a goner but no, steel guts was just fine, just gained a few pounds). So I can relate to all three things :) Glad everything turned out okay.
Another few days of indolence for you then Jan!! What a sensible son you have ...the first sign of trouble remove yourself forthwith.....excellent!
No food for those donks tonight then....possibly husband too!!
Even your dog is rebelling ...must be too much stress over Christmas....he/she looks a little sorry do you think?
@happypat haha, I know Pat, I nearly called it 'Who's sorry now?' Yep the donks have had no food tonight, not even straw and I haven't shut them in so they are going to have to forage for the very meagre grass, little devils!
As for Graham, I did think about limiting his rations, but he is picking us a takeaway up, so I don't think I will be able to.
Oh dear lots of shaming! This is such a cute pic though and an instant Fav. I'm glad Angus didn't get into trouble. I remember worrying about my 2 but I think that when they've been brought up with love and care, they usually do the right thing and stay out of trouble or they land up in a mess, they get through it because they know how upsetting it is for the people they love.
Very funny. Just be grateful it was his own bed he destroyed and not yours. In his younger, more neurotic days my dog ate two sets of wooden window blinds, the vent to the tumble dryer and two car seatbelts.
Oh no , love the way he is glancing at the sign! Naughty naughty dog, let's hope that wasn't a Kath Kidston bed! Very funny, can't help but chuckle. Fav
Love that you had such a great choice of shamed family members to choose from, I think the donkeys had a lucky escape!!! Definitely has a very guilty look on his face! : )
Sounds like your son and his friends have very sensible heads on their shoulders! : )
Really enjoying your shaming series - rather funny for us ... but not so fun for you I imagine!
Makes me laugh (and remember the times my dogs have done the same thing!)
