Oh this rain..... well actually, we haven't had too much today, but the ground is absolutely waterlogged at the moment and a spring has sprung up in the chickens' run. A proper, gushing like somebody has turned a tap on spring. All very strange.
The festivities are all over, the annual 'Sparkly Sunday' party at a neighbours' house to mark the end of the festivities was fun, and we didn't stay too long after our self-imposed curfew, well only an hour longer than we meant to, so by our normal standards that was good.
Graham is back to work as normal today, and the boys go back to school tomorrow. As it is twelfth night I took the Christmas decorations down and put the tree outside. I can't wait to get the house properly cleaned and back into some sort of order.
Oh yes, and I wasn't completely savaged by the pigs when I fed them today. A few more muddy nose prints on my trousers than I would have wished for, but it could have been worse - they could have been tooth-marks.
This is our oldest chicken and the one that I posted a shot of when it was looking decidedly sorry for itself during its moult a couple of months ago. She is now looking in much finer fettle, but in spite of that we are getting so few eggs at the moment. Bring on the spring!
Excellent capture, with her beak open like that. I've been told that warm milk with bread in encourages eggs in winter, although we have never tried it out. She has certainly recovered from her moult.
The pigs must like you! Good thing! This old girl definitely looks better than she did while she was molting. We got our last batch of free chickens as 2 yr old layers. They were getting progressively scarier looking every time they went through a molt. At times it looked like someone plucked them! But they all finally quit laying, one by one and now we have none. Chicks are on our spring list of things to do, more photo ops, lol. Nice capture by the way!
Super portrait of a pretty chicken! She is definitely looking better. Maybe she isn't laying because she hates the rain you guys are getting!
We are keeping four chickens for a friend who doesn't have a heated barn and we are getting four eggs a day. I am giving most of them away ... just don't need that many eggs!
What clarity.
