Butterflies those beautiful, delicate creatures. But I think they look a bit sinister when you look at them head on.

I was obviously being optimistic when I re-set the alarm for forty minutes after Graham left for work this morning. Approximately ten minutes later I was wearing rubber gloves and cleaning up two enormous piles of cat puke that had been noisily deposited on the bedroom carpet. Marvellous!

So, after yesterday’s “Oh, I’ve forgotten my buss pass” from Angus which resulted in a thirty mile round trip to take him to school yesterday morning, we arrived at the bus stop this morning only for Sam to remember that it was non-school uniform day. We turned round, went home and I did the forty mile round trip to get him to his school. I must say, I was not a very smiley Mummy. In fact, if I am honest, I had a bit of a rant. To be fair, at least he was contrite, unlike his brother had been the day before.

I decided to pay them back by going to Costa for a flat white coffee and an almond croissant on the way home – “that’ll show ‘em” I thought. I mean what better way would there be for me to express my disapproval than by breaking my diet? So I ended not only annoyed with my children, but annoyed with myself too! And the croissant wasn’t even particularly nice. While I was in there I partook in a biit of my favourite hobby – listening to other people’s conversations and was very amused by the two who were sat next to me. They were obviously in some kind of sales related role and the one who was the more senior was talking in the most patronising way and using the most ridiculous analogies to his obviously more intelligent underling. I was sorry to leave.

Started watching the first series of ‘Breaking Bad’ last night. I bought it for Graham for Christmas. We both loved it.
A funny morning, you did have! What a pity that almond croissant wasn't worth it! The chocolate that I sneaked on my diet was worth it though! Amazing front picture of this insect! No wonder they can fly with that wing span!

Still haven't seen Breaking Bad. The boys in my house watched it on Netflix on a Tuesday night...when I'm out typically. I'll probably buy the boxset at some point because I'd really like to see it. Sorry you had such a rotten day. Kids can be irritating particularly when they rely on us taxiing them about so much. It doesn't get any easier the older they get. Befor I forget, I love this. Another fab fav for me xx

Poor you Jan and what a good mother you are, the boys are very lucky. Good for you to stop and have a bit of '. Me time' in Costa even if it was not as nice as you anticipated. Love this head on butterfly shot, great DOF and a very obliging fella.

amazing, how do you get so close? sorry a novice, is this a special lens/ features?

Hi Helen. I used a 100mm macro lens and was probably about 3 feet away (I was at a butterfly farm). The shot has been cropped quite a bit too. @helenmichelled

I looked at your picture but only read your text afterwards.....love your everyday story of country life!! teenagers hey.....just had Cathy & Lydia here for their tea....just a little matter of not texting boyfriend after 11pm & L has gone home in a strop!!
February 7th, 2014
@happypat oh yes, stropping is becoming a more and more common occurance with my youngest at the moment. Angus doesn't really do strops. He just gets angry and then forgets about it. Much easier to deal with that sulking I reckon
