I spent a short time sitting by our pond trying to get some shots of damselflies yesterday. They are so quick and so flimsy it is really difficult to get an in-focus shot of them. Fortunately this honey bee (presumably one of the ones that lives in our chimney) stopped for a quick drink. Much easier to photograph.
This year our pond has been invaded by duck weed - we have managed to avoid it for years but now we have it I think it is going to be an ongoing battle.
Sam is off on his Duke of Edinburgh practice expedition today. It is forecast to be the hottest day of the year. At the moment he is thinking that his pack is not too heavy - wonder what he will be saying in a few hours time! I have resisted the temptation to hover over him to make sure he has packed everything on the list, so who knows what he has got in there.
When Angus did his just over three years ago it had to be abandoned because the horizontal sleet was making things a bit dangerous. Talk about from one extreme to the other.
That's nice, Jan. It's so relaxing to sit by a pond and watch the wildlife but as you say, it's difficult to control the invading pondweed once it gets a hold.
Yes those damselflies go at a good rate.but on the other hand sitting by the pond relaxing and trying to get a shot isn't a bad thing. Hope Sam gets on OK excellent thing DoE. I did it many years ago and both boys have done it great fun.
Lovely shot. Ellen's practise was in Snowdonia, in similar conditions to those Angus had - in fact it was cut short due to the hailstorms and high winds. Her actual expedition is in Morocco in August -which should be slightly different.
