Scaeva selenitica ? by jantan

Scaeva selenitica ?

As there seems to be a bit of a hoverfly 'thing' going on on 365 at the moment , so here's another one. I am trying a bit harder to identify them now but there are about 270 species in the UK, so I am never too confident that I have got it right.
That's the name I was thinking of...not! It's a fine specimen anyway.

There ARE so many of them out there. The latest one I found was this HUGE one I thought was a wasp. It is colored like one. and so big. But a yellow jacket hoverfly! I love this pic because it is like the hoverfly caused that crack when he landed! haha
