prisoners! by jantan

prisoners!

at this time of year the donkeys are shut in the yard with access to their stables at night. This gives them time off the wet grass which is good for their hooves.

This is the sight which awaits me each morning.
Super to see them huddled together and waiting for the hand that feeds them !

I love donkeys. A man down the road has some and every now and then sells them off..then cannot do without and buys some more! I keep meaning to go and take some photos. They are so sweet.

Oh they look lovely, all waiting for you and maybe seeing who can be first in line!

Ah bless them, all waiting for you! There is an article about donkeys in the December edition of Country Living......it says there how they greet you.

FAV. I love the donks
But do they like being off the grass?

Fav - I love donkeys too. There's something about them that's just so endearing.

strange how we are the only species that imprisons other species and uses them. Mind I think we would be a little screwed if the dolphins decided to put us in a zoo x

Nice shot! I like the lines of the fence and the tones of the donkeys.

@happypat Oh I will have to get a copy of that Pat.

@cdonohoue They don't like being off the grass Cathy but it is best for them because they are desert animals and their hooves aren't really designed for being wet all the time. They do get hay at this time of year tho and at this time of year they prefer that to the grass. In the spring, when the grass is sweeter they prefer that to hay, but they have to be kept off it for some of the time then too because they would get fat and/or get laminitis if they ate as much grass as they wanted then. It's a constant juggling act!
