Chippewa River

Drone and iPhone footage from Chippewa Falls, WI
Jeff, I enjoyed your Chippewa River video... the music was well chosen for the video content. I’m kind of surprised you could fly your drone so near the dam... I’ve read that you have to stay 400’ away and I’m sure you did that but I was wondering if you had any hassles with authorities. How difficult was it to learn to fly the drone? I’ve been toying with the idea of getting one. The video was great... nice color and nice straight horizon lines.

@kvphoto There are restrictions to flying in places: stadiums, flying over people, near airports, national parks, and sensitive security areas (like nuclear powerplants). The DJI app, as well as other apps, can show you where you can and cannot fly. The general rule for hobby flying is not within 5 miles of an airport, but with the LAANC system, you can get approval to operate inside the five miles with restrictions on altitude.
I just got my part 107 pilot certificate so that I can now sell images. If you do not have a 107 license you cannot sell your drone images, or use them in commercial ways (like to promote a website).

@jeffjones thanks so much for the info... really appreciate your time and expertise. Was it difficult to learn how to fly The drone, set the camera, etc.? Is the camera intuitive? I’m asking because I’ve had a series of GoPro cameras and they are not at all intuitive... they may be much better now... haven’t gotten one in a long time.
