Osprey nest by jeneurell

Osprey nest

Today my husbands sister Pat took us for a cruise and seafood lunch at Mooloolaba. Along the way I took this shot of a baby osprey in it's man made nest. Apparently the parents had made the nest on a boat - so the authorities removed it stick by stick and put it up on a telegraph pole.
Interesting narrative and photo

It’s great that the birds took up the offer of a new home!! Well spotted.

How wonderful that they were happy to relocate!

What a grand nest. I am sure the ospreys will make it their own once they have decorated it with a few extra bits and bobs.

I find it hard to believe that the osprey would have accepted the relocation of its nest. More likely they would have just built a new nest and laid more eggs. That said, osprey nests high up on telephone poles are a common sight here in BC. We used to spend our summers at a lake in BC’s interior and I loved to watch them dive for fish. And I just love the name Mooloolaba. So lyrical.

@cdcook48 Apparently ospreys have been moved twice at Mooloolaba - one lot from the boat (it was a barge) and another from a dead tree that had to go for a housing development.
