Turkey on the run by joansmor

Turkey on the run

I was on one of my digital scrapping sites messaging how cool it was that she had kangaroos to photograph. She said the were everywhere, I equated it to wild turkeys here. Sure enough when I was out this morning I saw turkey. Glad I did because the rest of the ride was a wash due to heavy traffic.
How nice to see wild turkeys! The colours on them are just lovely.

I've often wondered Joan, as we only have turkeys bred for the table... are your wild ones hunted and are they the same flavour as farmed ones or more gamey?

Nicely captured!

How nice to see these close up - I've seen an occasional wild turkey but always from a distance and generally running away. Great light and detail.

We get them here too- sometimes up to 30 in my backyard! Good shot.

I loved your caption because I saw the picture and thought, "Turkey's!!" Then I read you see them everywhere! Turkeys for you, Kangaroos for our Aussie friends, and I get squirrels and ducks...but you probably do, too!

@vignouse There is now a hunting period. I do not care for game myself so I have never tasted, But I have heard they are leaner, gamet and tougher than bred turkeys.

@Weezilou Have several squirrels in the neighborhood. And ducks in the ponds especially in warmer weather. Years ago I saw a moose twice in our neighborhood.

love how you've captured the iridescence of the feathers.. the birds look so different to the farm bred ones i see here, less plump but more 'real'.

@jorlam When the males pump themselves up the look a lot more like the farm bred turkey.

@joansmor Thank you Joan, i'm sure they do look plumper (if that's a word) but in the right places.. farm bred ones are fed foodstuffs to, intentionally, put on bulk and just like us overfeeding leads to excessive body mass without proper shape.. i prefer the 'proper' ones... lol
