Ploughed Field by jon_lip

Ploughed Field

This field, just a few hundred yards from our house was full of was barley not long ago. Now it is ploughed up ready for something else maybe or just to lie fallow for until Spring sowing? Looking at it now I'm surprised that anything would grow in such rough looking soil.
Looks like proper clay! I remember hiking near Chartwell in Kent in fields like this only they were wet too - the sheer effort of having to lift a boot with so much clay attached to the sole was shocking! Yet a few months later it was planted up, dried out and flourishing with crops.

You've captured the texture well. Where we live it looks like this, too, except it is also full of rocks, and somehow, they still manage to grow all kinds of edibles!

Yes, it never ceases to amaze me just how resilient plants can be! It is said (and I know it to be true) in our village if you were to dig a hole, it will be full of water 2 hours later!
