Week 14 Panning by joysabin

Week 14 Panning

There was water where it isn't usually. The recent crazy weather has given us snow, rain and thunder but left some areas of water in Buffalo Park that is almost always dry and dusty. I heard the frogs taking advantage of the temporary wetlands before I saw it. The crows and ravens were also keen on the spot.

I know that capturing birds in flight may not be considered panning by some but I thought it worked for the Dogwood 52 week challenge. This week's assignment was technical panning.

An infrared shot and then edited. Taken mid-day with bright sun, which is best for infrared.

Best on black if you have the time.
This works for me! As a recent victim of panning I can't begin to imagine getting a bird in focus as you have achieved admirably here. VML the static (reference) bird on the ice.

Really beautiful. This has such a lovely 'feel' about it and of course, I love the blues! Fav

Amazing, beautiful -- and yes, against black!

Really well done! Interesting subject for this challenge too - I have would never have thought of panning birds. Nice editing and colours too!

Definitely best on black. It is an image that takes thought; one can't look at it and say "Yes, I love it!" or even "I don't." or even "Meh" It demands one, in a very polite way, to spend time with it exploring its subtleties and hidden beauty. I do like it.

Love it ...

Very interesting processing. I like it.

@s4sayer Truly grateful for the fav, thank you. Panning and I aren't the best of friends either. The infrared sensor makes the grasses and the trees seem like they are snow covered but they're not. I was amazed that the birds let me as close as they did.

@megpicatilly Thank you very kindly for the fav. I think that I may have figured out post processing better for infrared, just maybe.

@octogenarian Thank you so very much for the fav. The sound of frogs was such a gift and then to see the water, oh I was almost in tears. I miss frogs and water. In the high desert both are a real challenge.

@stephanies Thank you so much. The crows were all over the place but I loved the sound of the frogs more. The infrared processing can be a real 'bear'. I admit that panning isn't my strong suit, more practice is good- so they say.:):)

@evalieutionspics I think that it is the challenge to get the processing under my belt so to peak, I am having fun (mostly) with photoshop. Gimp seems to be better at white balance correction but then has issues with file type and size when down loading into 365- I learn through my oops hopefully not making the same ones too often. On ward I trudge.

@pdulis I am truly thankful for the fav. Infrared photography is a wonderful place to learn and tear your hair out. Not giving up.....

@deborah63 So very grateful for the fav. Infrared is a real challenge but I love it.

The infrared makes this magical! Love the blue tones as well as the unexpected whites throughout. Otherworldly for sure.

@taffy Thank you, I like how the green pines are shock white. I think that I am making progress on the post work. I am taking notes, now.:):)

Fantastic

Very impressive shot! Fav.

Nicely done - I am struggling with the panning technique this week but I will get it. So very well done!

This is positively surreal and it does indeed look more like frozen tundra than an urban park.

Gorgeous.

Great shot

@pusspup Thank you so kindly for the fav. The birds were flying so low and close, I was totally amazed. We get standing water around, never! It does happen much more often when its freezing.

WOW

@eudora Thank you so much, I am very grateful for the fav. The park sits about Flagstaff, used to be an Wild West themed amusement park so it flat and wide open, a favorite walk for many. The temporary pond was a big surprise.

@brett101 Panning looks so easy and never is. I always thought you needed to use a slow shutter speed but I did move with the crows as I shot. I have several not so good attempts, I did get lucky on this.

@vignouse The beauty or strangeness of infrared does make for a rather surreal image. This was my second processing attempt of the raw file. The trees most often show up with shock white. Being that we still can have snow here, it looks like a fresh snow fall. The temperature was in the mid 50's (12 or 13C). It was the sound of frogs croaking that I loved. Thank you so very much for the fav.

@la_photographic You are so very kind, thank you for the fav.

@bkbinthecity Thank you very much. The Infrared post processing is a bear but I'm not giving up. It is an interesting sense of humor.

@domenicododaro I am so very grateful for the fav. I went to the park hoping for clouds set against the mountains but found frogs. It is rare that one hears them here. The crows were an additional gift.
