To replant my cactus which is out growing its current pot is going to be like touching fire. Ouch! This is a 'straight' infrared, no post channel swaps.
This is hard and fits the week 15 of the 52 week challenge.
A very arresting image. I am not up on the technical differences you are referring too. But they sound interesting too. I have a lot to learn about digital editing.
I have done that in the past... with lots of newspaper wrapped around the cactus! Do you know... I thought the blue and pink pics were how the IR pics came out of the camera.....? So now I am curious, can you change channel colours in the camera before taking a picture? or does every single pic come out in this colour? Great shot anyway... I like how the spikes are tinged red - red being for danger.
@mbrutus The post work with infrared can be daunting but I refuse to let photoshop win. I do have an older version because I do not wish to rent the program. This is a good GIMP youtube ( https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jlQ0qDpMktI) photoshop doesn't do a great white balance adjustment but I've learned to use GIMP, Photoshop and getPaint.net to get various things done the way I like. Sometimes I think that IR is a different universe all together.
@stephanies I will try to use newspaper or heavy leather gloves-wish me luck. As for the Infrared, I have converted an older DSLR to IR. The sensor is swapped so that it only registers light in the IR range of the light spectrum.I n post, I take the raw image and go to adjustments and channel swap in photoshop. Under the reds I take the reds to 0 and the blues to 100, then switch to the blue channel and do the opposite, reds to 100 and blue 0. This helps give the image a more 'real' look but still strange. Laurie Klein has a good video on this stuff. ( https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8mCEEe0ORbY) It is strange but I guess I like the challenge.
@joysabin Many thanks for you generous explanation. I will have to look into it. I find that photoshop is usually more complicated than I need most times. But I am determined to master it eventually. But usually, I'm too busy taking pictures to fuss with them much. Or my wife would never see me. (Though, she might like that. Who knows?)

@pusspup Infrared is part of the total spectrum of light, we can't see it with our eyes but this might help ( https://photographylife.com/introduction-to-infrared-photography/). The images are very different and can look surreal. Laurie Klein also has a very nice youtube video which has some interesting images. ( https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8mCEEe0ORbY). It is strange but I'm hooked.
