Best viewed large if you've got time. I have essentially no decent photos from today as the weather was so atrocious during this afternoon that I left my big camera at home and my P&S promptly ran out of batteries leaving me with a soggy iPhone. I spotted a nice wet autumn leaf, dropped it in a better place, turned it the right way up and acquired a crane fly. Processed to look like an old illustration - or just a bit rubbish - not sure which.
Three good things:
1. I'm not doing a Reading Recovery Course I'm doing Better Reading Partners which is for children performing just a little below the average. The results can be amazing so hoping I can get it right.
2. Interesting fellow course members and lots of retired people giving up time to go in to schools to help out. 'Big Society' in action until the retirement age becomes so high that retired people are too flaked out to help.
3. Living in the east of the country means we only got loads of rain today not the Apocalypse. Fingers crossed for 365 friends in the west....
Well - it may not be a spider but it sure is creepy looking. Looks like a detailed pencil sketch. So in the States we have a Reading program that my dogs are involved with - they are Therapy Dogs (Therapy Dogs International) and the program is called "Tail Waggin' Tutors". Kids sit on the floor and read to them out loud for a chunk of time (in my case, 15 minutes) and it is a non-judgmental situation (I am available to help if they want it)...I have seen kids' reading abilities sky-rocket with just this little bit of confidence-building. Maybe Monty would like to help?!?
Oh I think we;re in the East it today was like an apocalypse to me. Or was that just lectures. Like your processing here. Looks like an old etching or something.
I think I might have fancied the reading programme too if I hadn't been doing the B&B, think that is quite enough for now but I do love reading to children & helping them to learn love reading as I do would be a privilege I think. Well done Judith, will interested to hear how you get on.
This leaf & crane fly have taken on a very vintage look & something you might see in a very old book, what long legs he has too! Very creative ! Has rained all day today but no wind as yet but we have flooded fields every where!
@bpaquette Oh I like that!! I'm not sure Monty would get the point though - he would probably try to persuade them to play hoops and if that failed he would go to sleep. You have the advantage of having trained your dogs!
Good to see a crane fly keeping still (!) as I hate it when they flap about. We seem to have been lucky in the south as it's been dry since about 1 p.m. and sunny all afternoon.
@judithg the first time I took Irwin the child looked at Irwin and said, "Hey lady, your dog is dead". I checked Irwin's breathing and I said, "No, honey, he is just sleeping". To which he replied, "Well, lady, wake him up, I'm trying to read to him!"
i must do a spider judith, i agree with your astute observation on (2) regarding having to work forever .....well maybe it's not astute....it's obvious to everyone it effects !!!
I remember these well, from the cold outside toilets at primary school.....yes unfortunately I am THAT old. Those were the days, when you helped the teacher make their tea and she gave you beads and necklaces in return!! aaannnnddd a pot belly stove in the corner of the classroom, lovely to defrost after using the outside loos!!
Great choice of processing, love it.
Fabulous editing!! Very cool composition. I'm certain your time with those young readers is going to be invaluable to them. In Atlanta I was involved with a literacy program to help 'English as a second language' and 'at risk' students. The results were remarkable. A little extra attention goes a long way. :)
