Porcelain and pedals

I hope this bike owner isn't planning on carrying their purchases in the basket... You don't see this sort of scene very often as leaning your bike on shop windows doesn't go down well.
I am feeling slightly traumatised as the neighbours have had a couple of men with chainsaws working in the garden and they've taken a huge branch off my beautiful magnolia - nothing we can do as they are allowed to go up to the boundary. They tried to persuade us that new branches will grow out of the sides but I'm not convinced.
So three good things required:
1. Bake Off final tonight (also rather sad)
2. You can't see the severed branch from the house
3. Nearly half term
This shop owner needs a stack of those very polite "Please refrain from leaving your cycle here..." notices. Although the transgression made for a lovely bicycle silhouette shot. :) So sorry about the tragic trim to your magnolia. :(

A very pleasing composition, although not a pleasing parking place. We have a magnolia and have never had a need to prune it which I think is usual. I think they can tolerate a prune if done early autumn but really shouldn't have been necessary. What is wrong with people???

I love the photo - something about the darkness of the bike against the light of the shop window. I bet you're devastated about the magnolia - I know I would be. Some people just don't get the beauty of trees.

Nice shot, Judith. Wouldn't worry too much about the magnolia. We have to have our trees pruned every year, and they always grow back with a vengeance!

Great shot and agree with Pete, when we have cut back the growth has been even better.

Oh dear but you can't say much.....neighbours are a fairly new thing for us & we are not happy with ours at the moment. He has moved his caravan out of the building because he has put maize in but stuck it in the field in front of us.....we already have one in view further down belonging to the builders at the end house....we are hoping he will put inside again & are biting our tongues!
I would have thought they would have loved a beautiful magnolia in the garden!! I seem to remember you mentioned something about a shed!!!!! Lovely bike picture but that shop keeper won't be happy!! It gives a fantastic silhouette though....it's a man of course ...they have no thought!!

Nice contrast between the bike and the shop window display. Are these the same neighbours who are going to build up to the fence? The people down the road from us cut their magnolia back hard every couple of years and it's enormous again by the following year so hopefully your's will do the same

BTW it said in the Daily Mail this morning who had one ...Raymond Blanc spilled the beans...told us not to read on if we didn't want to know...I turned the page!!

won of course!!!

Lovely composition Judith

Love the light and dark contrast, I'm amazed the owner felt they were able to leave it there unattended it would be long gone if it were in London.

@happypat Oh dear - it would be easier if neighbours just thought a bit. It's just been on Radio 4 about Raymond Blanc - daft bloke!

I really like the functional silhouette against the rather unfunctional porcelain. I also like the title a lot - you're quite the poet with your titles, aren't you ;)? Those news about the magnolia sound so sad but as Ian said in "Jurassic Park": Life will find its way - he meant dinosaurs but so what ;)?

@pistonbroke @padlock Oh thanks for the reassurance - it would be great if it grows back to hide his new enormous office he's building!

@jo13 Pedestrian area - otherwise it would be in the back of a van in no time - although the police did recently 'steal' some bikes and nobody did anything.

@jannaellen Hahaa - it's his loss really! (Just made my tree look unbalanced!)

Well spotted. I particularly like the dark shape of the bike against the delicate porcelain.

Amazing where people will leave them. Surprised it hasn't been nicked. ;)

I love your title and the bike looks very effective with the back drop of the window display. I have just watched the final of the bake off. So sorry to hear about your tree it is quite distressing to see , but hopefully it will rejuvenate it.

That window would be very thick with this sort of stuff behind it! I would worry the bike would slip. I think magnolias would survive but would probably put some paste on the stump to stop insects or disease.

Good shot. Sorry to hear about your Magnolia. Hope it's ok. You would think your neighbour would like the flowers they produce in their garden too!
October 22nd, 2013
The silhouette looks great against all that brightly coloured stuff. Shame about the tree, but I'm sure it will bounce back next year.

nice use of the silhouette judith...half term already in Nottingham !

Love the contrast. Ouch re the magnolia though...so glad our closest neighbor is 1/2 mile away...though even so it was hard to tolerate the thump of huge trees as they fell to the ground when they logged their property.

Love this shot!
