My new secondhand camera arrived at about 11.30am - pretty good since it wasn't posted until 4.50pm last night. So I've 'had' to test it today just in case it has to go back! I might have to test it a bit more before my birthday as well ;0)
So far so good although I need to get closer and work out exposure in the very harsh shadows we had today and decide if I like the case which isn't very comfortable for one handed dog-assisted shooting.
Oh - yes in deed - much more testing required!
Three GT:
1. Royal Mail
2. I didn't get scammed even though I broke Gumtree's rules and bought something unseen
3. @humphreyhippo's tip about a blog that showed me how to set all the settings back to something sensible.
Quite a tricky camera by the read up Judith but you aren't a novice so you will be fine... I like your practice shot!!
This'' boatie'' is miles away & the water has shown up beautifully don't you think!
@happypat Yes I'm not there yet - had to crop in a lot for this and a lot of shots were too dark (sun too bright I think) - so lots of reading required. It's in good nick for 2nd hand though.
I love this shot. The sleeping guy and the wonderful wiggly patterns on the water make it a fav for me. Your new toy sounds interesting - although it seems to me you've got the hang of it pretty quickly!
Ooo ooo I'm a good thing. You've made my day. ;)
I gave up with cases and the lens cap - just chucked the lens hood on and keep it in a normal handbag. :)
@judithg Oh I do have a UV filter on it though - http://r.ebay.com/gkBvoB - one of these. Barely remember it's on there as it's so thin & I get hardly any flare.
@humphreyhippo You're always a good thing! He sent a hood and filter and I've put the filter on but now I can't get the hood on - not sure I'm bothered about it though...
@judithg I didn't like the hood at first - it felt a bit clunky, but it does make it so much more robust, especially if you don't use the lens cap.
One thing I would say, if you don't have a spare battery, I'd recommend getting one. The battery monitor is rubbish. When it finally warns that you have one bar left, it basically means 2-3 shots and it's dead. ;)
I got a couple of HK copies off eBay. They don't last anywhere near as long as the original Fuji one, but they'll see you through the end of your walk when the good one runs out.
@humphreyhippo I got a spare battery with the camera (handy little set of stuff!) how do you get the hood on with the filter on - do you have to screw it over the top? I'm assuming he used both together but he sent all the bits separately. It would be handy because it gets swung about with the dog in tow!
Yes, I had problems with the harsh shadows today - didn't know what to do about it though. Mind you I've just remembered that the light setting might still be on florescent!! He loos very sweet doesn't he - oblivious to the world.
You mean you bought the camera unseen?? Wow, glad it turned out OK. I would need to know exactly what I want to buy like that. This guy is just reviewing his thesis in his mind and decided what he needs to change!
FinePix X100 that is a serious bit of kit Judith...I hope you have fun with it.... it looks nice too quite retro (the camera not the shot).....happy shooting :) nice pic too
We've very much enjoyed the nice weather in Cambridge, which was exceptional, I understood. We've also gone punting. So nice to see the city from the water.
I think you've got yourself a (nother) follower. Who knows, perhaps you'll post a pic with our son into it, someday ;) He's working his but off in 'Catz' (law); liking it very much!
@stimuloog We do tend to have dry weather as we are in the east but it doesn't always mean that the sun is out and we can get some very cold winds from the Urals. A bit wetter and breezy today but still warm - waiting for a big storm tomorrow night :0/ Pleased you enjoyed our lovely city!
Love this shot! I'm working backwards with your photos and I'm loving these shots with your new-to-you camera. I'm going to have to investigate a FinePix x100.
Oh very languid: excellent. Congrats on the new toy. I'm trying to decide whether to get a replacement or not. It's hard for me to justify, really, but I would quite like one - maybe gumtree's not a bad idea.

I know how this guy feels too...

Love this shot by the way. :)
