The crazy chauffeur punters were still out on the river today but I was pleased to see the Scudamores' sales person politely refuse three girls who wanted to self-punt (well not that politely actually - she said, 'Are you completely mad?') It is wild outside and St Jude hasn't started yet. I spent an hour or so clearing the garden of blow-aroundables and then picked up lots of leaves and windfall apples to lend a bit of weight to the green bin before weighing it down with heavy stuff. I have had a bit of a problem defining 'blow-aroundable' as I have really no experience with strong winds so basically moved anything I could lift into a (hopefully) more sheltered place. I then decided I should do a supermarket shop early rather than try and get there tomorrow morning as planned and now all I have to go out for is putting the hens to bed and feeding the neighbour's cats so we can bunker down.
Several good things:
1. Nigel and Rachel safely back to their respective homes.
2. I realised I was still in half my pyjamas before I took Monty out for his walk - the garden clearance was a bit impromptu and I got carried away!
3. Some more leaves being blown off the trees before the big wind comes.
4. Michael Fish has said it 'won't be too bad'.
5. The young man from Scudamores' punts who took blankets over to a lady who had fallen off her bike and locked her bike to his own so that it wouldn't be stolen when they took her off to hospital.
nice shot judith....the worst bit here , according to our local radio, is due in the 'morning rush hour'....great eh ? ...should make Ruby's morning walk interesting as she hates the rain !
Woah - sounds like quite a storm coming. Stay safe - but it sounds like you're well prepared :). I really liked the thing 5 - not that the lady had an accident but that they were so kind and helpful to her.
Lots of lovely autumnal colours here and I don't suppose there will be many boats out tomorrow! It doesn't fill me with optimism when Michael Fish says it will be ok!
Well Michael Fish isn't going to get it wrong again!!! Love this shot of the leaf filled punts. Wonderful colours. Cambridge in the autumn, you should get a book with your photographs published and please include the strange man in red!
A great shot - and before the storm too! Should get some good shots after it - if it happens! I've been a bit laid back about it, such that my visiting daughter went outside and got at least some of the blow-away-ables in.
Love the title, and shot. Unfortunately I have over two hundred plants waiting to be planted sitting in my clients garden, just hope that's where I still find them tomorrow!!!
Surprised they haven't covered over the punts to keep the leaves and rain out! Maybe they should hire you to do it for them. Be safe!! NIce #4 - to know that people still care!!
Nice shot Judith. I'm glad someone else is getting some weather. When I went into work late and explained my fallen tree, they all said "It's been alright, here..." Grrr
We are in a similar state up in North Yorkshire. Most of the lovely autumnal colours that I intended to photograph are now lying in muddy drifts at the edge of the roads!
