So we were off to our own vet this morning and Monty trotted in looking as right as rain to all intents and purposes. He did object to his neck being moved but otherwise was pretty chipper. We now have a long but decreasing course of steroids to take and a short course of painkillers (so they don't mask the effect of the steroids), and firmly crossed fingers. Unfortunately, at about 10.30 when I was out he must have done his usual 'leap up to see the postman off' because Nigel found him standing frozen in his bed when he came in from his office. A re-enactment of last night's journey to the vet during which Nigel took the weight off his front half seemed to relax him again but he's been quite weary and nervous of moving all day. He's dosed up with drugs again now so hopefully we'll see proper improvement tomorrow.
Three GT:
1. Painkillers
2. The vet happened to mention another spaniel that he's treated for this problem and not only did I know the dog but I bumped in to them this afternoon. The owner told me that steroids had provided a complete and lasting treatment so that's encouraging.
3. Chance encounter and a cup of tea in John Lewis with Rebecca's lovely mum.
Hopeful news then for poor Monty......would an operation be an option if all else fails? Poor boy I bet he hates not being able to do his usual stuff...if only they could talk.
Every time I look at that sad face I could cry. Mind you I took a photo of a cocker today with an equally sad face and there isn't even anything wrong with him! Everything crossed that this works.
Poor thing - that is such a sorrowful face. He must be feeling rubbish. Trouble is you can't tell them to take it slowly - it's just not in dog vocabulary! Hope the steroids do their stuff.
Hope he's better soon. We changed our pet nsurance - silly thing to do as they won't treat a pre-existing condition. Now we don't have any insurance at all.
Now I see the story of Monty's issues. I can't help but think the steroids will have him feeling much better in time...especially coupled with painkillers until the inflammation is under control. Poor guy. I hope he knows relief very soon!!!
