First of all thank you for the lovely response to yesterday's photo - it took me quite by surprise. Rachel, Monty and I headed out on a more rural walk today so that Monty could have a trot off-lead with his new, grass-free ear. I've a horrible feeling that his feet may not be grass free though... Anyway - the Gog Magog hills are chalky and the plants there are teeming with butterflies at this time of year. We saw Meadow browns, marbled whites, dozens of tortoiseshell on a tree that's like a miniature white lilac (anybody know what that is? A miniature white lilac perhaps!) and this brimstone. Note sure if this is the best of my photos - it looks like I've sharpened it or something but I've just straightened it- but I liked the proboscis.
Three GT:
1. Summer is back.
2. Listening to the porters talking to students going to the college balls - they see it year after year but still joined in with the excitement and insisted that they come in for photos.
3. The wren that lives in the mock orange - since we've removed the tree and put the new shed up I can watch it hopping around - I know it's there because it's so blooming noisy!
Great capture! This is a Brimstone and I wonder if the miniature lilac could have been buddleia as tortoiseshells do like that and it does come in white?
ooooh what a brilliant close up! I need to think about a replacement camera that does some special stuff like this.....but the little lumix is very faithful for the moment!
Oh I do envy you your lovely butterflies.....I can honestly say I have only seen boring cabbage whites here! This one is a very beautiful yellow cream....and you know the names!
Great shot! A little chap had saved some caterpillars in a ventilated jar and watched them turn into butterflies like this... he brought them to school on Friday and we watched them fly away. It was lovely! :)
