Ok, I realize it's a classic. But just because it's a classic, is it really the best choice for a class of teenagers to study? Everything she tells me sounds yucky. I wouldn't choose it for her.
What grade is she in now? I have not read it but as a teacher I am sure there is a reason behind them reading it. If nothing else, teaching them they sometimes have to read things they don't like. At least that is what I tell my students when they complain about the books I pick.
@wilsonsj She is in 10th. Well it's hard reading and the teacher explains everything. I guess it's poetry. But it's about the 7 levels of hell or something and it has some ugly illustrations of torture they endure there. She isn't really complaining about it, I just think it's a yucky thing to think about everyday for weeks.
@wilsonsj@maggie2 Now she tells me that it's not so bad at all, actually, she had just told me a few parts I didn't like. She said most of it she doesn't understand, and the teacher explains it to them. So they are learning to comprehend what they are reading.
i read and studied this in college and thought it was difficult, though very interesting and important in the context of classic literature. 10th grade maybe a bit young for this though...but as some other ppl here have said, the teacher may have a good reason behind it.
