Cuckoo Flower is so-named because it is supposed to coincide with the arrival of the cuckoo ... and I did hear a cuckoo about a week ago. It's also known as Lady's Smock and the Latin name is Cardamine pratensis. In all the years I've been in Somerset (45 years) I've never seen the fields across the Somerset Levels covered in it like they are this year. No idea of what significance that has, but it is a lovely sight.
Lovely wee plant. Abundant here as well but a long way from flowering. I have had a cuckoo in the garden once in 35 years in Shetland but only passing through.
@lifeat60degrees - I wonder how much later things are in Shetland than here. These have been out over a week now, but we have had a very warm and sunny April.
