Not at all sure what this one is.... maybe a wood gnat? (not the biting sort) but it has a very long snout which most of the examples I can find don't have. Any experts out there who can tell me?
Aha! I have just discovered that it is a Scorpion fly (Panorpa Communis) ! It pays to stick at the research!

@woofandweft1 - aww....it's apparently only called that because the males have a scorpion -like body end, but they don't sting :)
