This is one of the ancient droves across Kings Sedgemoor on the Somerset Levels. The whole area is criss-crossed with rhynes (drainage ditches) and all the droves have a rhyne on each side. All the flooding of recent months has now gone, and all is quiet and peaceful in the Spring sunshine.
We travelled by train from Cornwall to London in early February, and passing through the levels was like boating on a lake, complete with swans and ducks.......the railway line was just like a mound .....so pleased to see it all back to countryside again.
@cutekitty - yes it all looks very different now! Still, they (mostly) do a great job of containing all the excess winter water so that properties don't get flooded. This winter we didn't get anywhere near the amount of flooding of a few years ago so we hope that the vast works that have been done recently have alleviated that threat.
@julienne1 Yes, that was dreadful wasn't it. Our village was flooded in 2010 and our shop flooded out.......the EA have done a lot of work since then and so far all has been well.
