I enjoyed the thorough preening of this Great Crested Grebe (Podiceps cristatus) during another dawn outing to Ham Wall RSPB nature reserve this morning. It was good to hear several cuckoos calling and lots of booming bitterns, and (as always) a real treat to see Sand Martins, Swallows and Swifts back from their winter migration and still with the energy to perform fabulous acrobatics over the reed beds.
