It goes on "Ash before oak, we're in for a soak" which supposedly means that if oak leaves open before ash then we will have a dryer summer than if it were the other way round. In reality, oak leaves have opened before ash almost every year in recent times probably because of warmer springs allowing the more temperature-sensitive oak to leaf earlier. Round here certainly, the ash leaf buds are still tightly closed.
