Today we are Herd Testing 'Our Girls'.. This is done every couple of months for a night and morning milking.. We take a small sample of milk from each cow and then it is taken away to be tested for quantity and quality, so that it gives us a gage as to who is performing and is not.. Like the colours of the pretty little sample pots..
It all works well in this collage, and so interesting for a city slicker. It also looks good to see the framing pick up on the colours in those colourful sample pots.
@gosia about 7-8 minutes and give about 12- 15 ltrs per milking.. The cups are put on manually.. we do not have a 'Robot' milking machine.. George has done this since her was 15 ( 50 years) and still loves it..
I have helped do this with the little tray with the pots in.......pretty similar to the way we did it......love looking at your shed...nothing like watching cows being milked!
Love this collage - it looks great against a black background too. Are there still herd testers that travel from farm to farm? That was a job I would have loved to do had I been permitted.
@snaphappi they do but not like it use to be... we use to have the Testing Officer stay once a month and it was quite a social occasion.. they become friends..
