NIkau and Berry's

While walking in the bush yesterday I was taken with the markings on the Nikau Palms.. each 'ring' marks where a branch has broken away and the previous years flowers come out from the base.. It takes about a year for the berries to ripen after the flowers have been the previous November.. These berries are one of the favourite foods of our Native Wood Pigeon the Kereru..
