I have been given this lovely orchid to look after for the next month.. My Sister and her Husband are off to South Africa .. so have given me this huge responsibility ... hope it still looks like this in a month.. Any tips would be welcome..
I hear they are supposed to be easier to care for than might be anticipated, yet it's always good to document how it looks upon arrival so you can keep that look in mind as you care for it!
Really easy to look after. Do not over water. Once a week/two weeks in summer stand the whole pot in water so water is over the top of the pot. Maybe put a little plant food in the water. Leave for about half an hour and then take out from the water and leave to drain. Do not let it stand in water if you have the pot in a container. I lost so many of these through over watering and then I watched someone at the garden centre doing this and have done it ever since. My orchids last for years coming back into flower every year. Hope this helps.
Keep taking photos I'd say….. that way if anything happens to it, you can give her a 'brag' book on her return!!
A gorgeous image - love the spots of bokeh.
@dide@seattlite thanks for your comments and I think your idea about the brag book could be a good one. The bokeh was a vase of dried grasses that have sequins on them
. Pleased with the effect.

That's a good watering tip, thanks from me too!
A beautiful and unusual orchid and all I can say is that they are capricious so it it dies or thrives, it will not be your fault!
