Black Sand Sprint...

The beaches around where we live are black sand and this time of year ... hight of summer they are very hot .. and from the time you kick off your Jandels ( Flip Flop/thongs) you have to sprint down to the wet sand as it is so hot.. Tide was very low but still a lot of fun with the dog and playing beach rugby...

Today New Zealand has a day off to celebrate the signing of the Treaty between Maori Cheif's and the European's back in 1840...

Interesting, the only other place I have ever seen black sand is on the Isle of Wight.

There is black sand on Tenerife due to the volcanic eruptions - but they have man-made white sandy beaches to keep us tourists happy! Never knew NZ had them though!

@888rachel Think it was just a gazebo .. someone set up for a day's fishing .. That is Port Waikato sand dunes on the other side

Happy Waitangi day! I remember running over hot sands to get your feet wet. White sand can get just as hot!
