This is a bad photo. Not focused, not well composed, but I had to surreptitiously take it so he wouldn't notice and wonder why I was taking a photo of his place card and finished dessert. But seriously, how often does one get invited to a dinner with Ken Burns and seated next to him? He was smart, interesting, and very engaging conversationalist. By the way, he's working on TEN documentaries and three books. At the same time.
He needs to get his tongue on there! If you were at home you would wouldn't you? I had to google Ken Burns but it would be an honour to sit next to him!
@maggiemae@rosiekerr@taffy@jamibann -- it was a complete time of being starstruck but unlike when I met Yoyo Ma, I gathered my wits enough to ask for a photo with him :) And yes, Taffy, even I liked the chocolate dessert. Funny thing is that one of his handlers had ordered a fruit cup for him and he clearly rejected it and asked for the chocolate one.
@joansmor -- He was turned toward the person on his other side. I held up my camera and quickly snapped. No composing or focusing or adjusting. Just snap. Then put camera away.
Sorry I don't know who he is!! He looks like a messy eater!! LOL LOL I like the photo of you with him and think this one is funny!!! I hope I'm not insulting anyone, not trying to, just don't know who he is or what he does!! FAV on the photo though as I do think it's funny!!
I have to agree with Kathy (that he looks like a messy eater), haha. Nice picture of the two of you though, and now I must go check out his link, because I didn't know who he was either.
We have a lot in common! Here is Ken Burns at my school for our centennial celebration http://365project.org/allie912/365/2015-11-06 I did not go to Boston but I did listen to the announcements and was happy to have both the Caldecott and Newbery already in our collection. My daughter lives in Boston and I tweeted about her husband's award-winning restaurant if anyone at the conference wanted a great place for lunch. (Brewer's Fork) I'm sure you had a wonderful time.
@allie912 -- I posted on your Caldecott page, too. I only went to eat at places where there were events, so I didn't get to choose any restaurants but I'm going back to Boston in July so I'll put Brewer's Fork on my list of places to check out!
I was "somewhat familiar" with the programs Ken has produced, but I had *no idea* of the breadth of his career What a stunning dinner-table companion he must have been! I can't recall how I know about this, but I recall (perhaps it was a tv show) that brought together a mix of people in different fields and followed their conversations. It was fascinating! Ken and I are also history buffs, so I think we might need to watch for more of his work! How exceptional he is!
