So very beautiful... And I don't think you take it for granted Kali. You showcase its splendor in shots like these - you realize its beauty and respect it... Just beautiful.
@kali66 stitching is still a pain for me. try lens correction in LR on all files before sending them to PS to stitch. it helps sometimes. This looks much better as far as the stars looking more pin point. there is still minimal trailing, if your 50mm has a low aperture 2.8-1.8 you can come down one more step on your shutter and eliminate the trailing all together. I have a 35mm on a crop sensor which is more like a 40mm and even at only 10 seconds I get minor trailing like this , I usually have to come down to 6-8 seconds, so you should be golden at 10 seconds on your full frame with a 50mm. try your kit lens and smart object stacking, you may like the results a little better. I will send links to the stacking.
also with panning you want at least a third of overlap for each shot, and unless your doing a vertical pano always shoot your panels in portrait orientation.
I have even gone so far at to smart object stack with 3-4 different stacks and stitch those. LOL that is what I had to do to get my old red mill shot. it is 24 images all together. 8 shots for bottom panel, 8 shots for middle panel and 8 shots for the sky.
i was using a 24mm at f2.8 here, and my camera is a crop sensor, 450d so is it better to use a wide angle like that or a 50mm? do you get more startrail the wider you go? i also have a 35mm and a 28mm all cheap old prime lenses , i think the fastest 50 i have is 1.8, i just realised i could try my sons nifty fifty 1.8 canon lens while he is here @sarraphoto
thanks that is a lot to take in so i will slowly digest it, , i will try the portrait pano next time and see the difference. thanks for the links, so much to learn!
@kali66 wider is better. The 24mm is good, but if your on a crop sensor drop to 10 seconds and all trailing should be reduced. The wider the lens tge longer the shutter you can use without trailing. Also there is a lens correction option in PS it is under filters.
Sondra, i had the same trouble with the stitching and conclude it is because the lens is soft at the edges...
and this is for manual alignment ( works every time but takes longer) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zzVSm64zq44
