"The self-absorption paradox describes the contradictory association whereby higher levels of self-awareness are simultaneously associated with higher levels of psychological distress and with psychological well-being."
we have been doing paradox as the theme for 5+2 as you probably know. Most of the ones I read about made my head ache, but I understood this one. no not unhappy but uneasy on the inside today, perhaps it doesn't show @maggiemae
Is self-absorption and self-awareness the same thing? I think s-awareness is knowledge of self and how it relates to and impacts on others, whereas s-absorption is, erm, just that. But I'm not a psychologist. Whatever you are, you're a good photographer. Like this portrait a lot.
absorbing light / energy / attention from above and storing it within yourself, drawing it down to where you are grounded and stubbornly planted and not letting go - perhaps :o)
Dramatic self-portrait. What i get from the quotation under the picture is that there are things in ourselves that make us feel happy, and other that make us feel the opposite. But of course our feelings about the rest of the world are contradictory in the same way.
Very dramatic. It conveys a sense of helplessness, like you know almost know what to do but are somehow not able to. May be I am reading too much in to the picture. Thank you for my challenge. Thinking about it. Your get pushed challenge for this week is to collage a group of pictures that tell a story.....the pictures could be of same subject or of different subjects..hopefully this works for you.
Does this mean as you become, or gain more self-awareness you suffer from self-induced psychological distress which negatively effects your psychological well-being? If so, are most people that are perceived to be well balanced and to have good to higher self-confidence actually on the edge, or are psychological basket cases?
@mikegifford lol Mike, don't ask me, I tried to read further into the study this was cut and pasted from, it seemed that it matters how one does the self-contemplation, whether to dwell or ruminate on the negative or use the truth to set yourself free so to speak, I initially took it to mean that the truth often cuts like a knife, but supposedly it is essential to gaining transcendance. just feeling my way here I amy not have explained that very well. @jasperc@tristansmum
I am now of the opinion I am actually going sane, just taking the long way around
