In Memory of Zen and the 28 others who perished in the Pike River Mine disaster 4 years ago today. They went to work and will never come home.
May they rest easier knowing no further lives will be put in jeopardy in that place.
And may their families find peace.
This was such a tragic event. It touched the lives of every New Zealander even those of us who live in other parts of the world. I think of this often and say a silent prayer and send my thoughts to the families and all those who were touched by this tragedy. May they rest in peace.
Lovely soft abstract and nice tribute. Thank goodness it won't happen there again. My grandfather was killed in an explosion of firedamp in a coal pit in Cumberland, England, in 1931. Of course it was long before I was born--my mother was only seven--but I sometimes try to imagine how dreadful it must have been for all concerned.
Zen was my son's best friend, only 21 years of age, his mum is a good friend of mine too. This rose is the first to flower in my garden and I remember standing staring at it through tears when we heard all hope was lost. Something about the tender shade of pink speaks to me of the heartbreak and sorrow of one gone far too soon.
