lesser known pancake rocks. by kali66

lesser known pancake rocks.

I got up at dawn one day and seeing the light was still dull under cloud decided to go and photograph these falls with slow shutter and nd filter, had to mentally calculate the exposure so i am happy with this. The tide was coming in and i very nearly got wet being distracted with the camera. As it turned out i got a light leak when i processed the film, and all the other shots i took here were ruined, so i will have an excuse to go back another time, an effort has to be made to go down to this end of the beach and the tide has to be right
Great B&W!! fav! and lovely story!

@swillinbillyflynn Punakaiki is 40km up the road, a major tourist attraction on this coast. http://www.westcoast.co.nz/plan-your-trip/punakaiki-pancake-rocks-and-blow-holes/

This is a beautiful composition.

Did you use the Spotmatic? My old one had an iffy light seal, which I repaired myself. It was not too bad.

I like the lines and flow of this. Well sought out, and well thought out.

Wonderful textures and striations within the rocks. Perfect water flow.

I'm impressed by your cameera knowledge - I just keep snapping and fiddling with the knob until it looks about right! Lovely shot

@chris667 i was using an olympus-om1 , the light leak happened in the dark bag, i got frustrated tangling the film twice on the reel and took my hands out to take a break, didnt realaise that could happen in there, but luckily it was only the end frames that got the flash.

@naomi i do my digital photography that way, but with film you have to have an idea of what you are doing before you take the shot :)

@joansmor yes, i think of the slow flow of water as the topping :)
