don't ask a girl her age! by koalagardens

don't ask a girl her age!

Well it may be considered rude to ask a girl her age, but I sure wanted to know how old Greta is!
Here she is at the vet (under anaesthetic) and I was very surprised to see that her teeth are nearly worn down to the gums. She is about 10 years old!
In the wild koalas generally live around 8 - 12 years. They can live up to 20 years, so she may have lots of time left, and hopefully some more joeys to give yet.
Thank you to every who cared and commented about Greta - I will keep you all updated.
Don`t look a (given) horse in his mouth. Great there are taking so much care for them.

@beryl those eucalyptus leaves are very tough stuff!
@pyrrhula @hermann @gilbertwood thanks for you comments :)
yes the roof is so ridged! it's amazing to get a koala under anaesthetic and examine them closely. I just kept holding her little hand, and I can't describe how amazing that felt!

Great shot and information. I guess the ridges help them break down the leaves? 😀
