The answer to do you see what I see (prev) - that is a koala pouch very heavy and full with a joey. Prev shot was from the side, but from underneath the pouch is very evident.
Thanks for joining in and guessing (mostly correctly)!
@gigiflower@Weezilou@happysnaps I did know she had a pouch young since early March, but it was just a bump and a hunch then ;)
the hard thing with wildlife is timing as it's mostly guessing. I would guess this pouch young could start peeking out any time in the next few weeks and should come out of the pouch by late May or June sometime.
Of course I can't wait! Pregnancy is 35 days, then a tiny hairless thing the size of a jelly bean is born and crawls up mum's fur and into the pouch for 5 -6 months. So I'm guessing this joey has been in there around 4 months or so :)
Just astounding to read all that! I had a sense about how it worked, but the VERY brief pregnancy and then such a long growing period were really amazing to read!
I had an inkling that yesterday's shot was of a large pouch Amazing how the pregnancy is so short , yet the little joey is fully protected in the pouch until fully formed and ready for the wide world !
