Actually Stevie only looked at me for a moment, but it looks like a whole competition was going on so I'm going to pretend it was :)
Thank you for the many comments on my photos, I read and appreciate every single one.
So cute - very nice lighting on Stevie. Do the Koalas get so they know you? Do they interact in any way with you? Or do you try to keep it as natural and wild as possible?
@365karly1 thanks for asking Karly!
They are very high up in the trees - in this photo I'm about 40 metres away from the tree and Stevie is about 20 metres up (not as high as they often are).
They are wild animals and don't interact with people at all. Despite what you may see of hand raised, captive koalas, they do not like contact with humans.
I'm regenerating native habitat, particularly koala habitat, so keeping them wild is really important to me. I work voluntary at the care centre Friends of the Koala run. Even there with sick/injured koalas we interact as little as possible. They are dying out fast, and keeping a healthy wild population is a huge goal for me.
I do think they recognise me, and probably the quad bike, but more in a way of - I can ignore her as I know she will move off again :)
@koalagardens Thanks so much for the info. I'm so pleased that your organization is working to save them while keeping them wild. Thank you for sharing them with us through your delightful photos.
@susiemc yep it's really luck to find one positioned like this! :) @365karly1 thank you, they are a great organisation and I'm very lucky to live in the koalas backyard!
