If I added a speech bubble to Krissy the joey, that's what I would have it say - her expression is priceless. Thank you for so many lovely comments and great questions, and for being with me here.
@fbailey we presume it must happen occasionally. We have so little data on wild koalas because the land size is so vast, and they are hard to study being arboreal.
I doubt it happens very often however, as we don't hear it reported in captive situations. Over the past 4 years I have suspected a misadventure caused a joey to be lost once. But it's only a suspicion as I had not confirmed there was definitely a joey in pouch, but I think there was.
So while I often gasp, and nearly always find myself holding my breath when videoing these scenes, I certainly don't expect any mishaps :) They are surprisingly agile at a moments notice, even the little joeys.
@vignouse it's getting beyond ridiculous I can assure you. koalas sleep so much of the time, I keep setting a timer so I can race out and check again if they are awake. it's been wet, and I'm making an awful mess where I exit onto the grass lol but hey, the time of having little joey's is so short I'm just making the most of it!
Most of our old cities permit you to have flowers in the street. limmeted.
