... it's the best time of year for this, but we are in the worst drought in 100 years and the trees are fast becoming terribly dry and it's going to be a very hard joey raising season with no rain in sight for some time to come yet. Thank you for the many lovely comments on my photos, very much appreciated.
@jacqbb yes there is free water available but the problem is going to be that the strategy eucalypts take to drought is to drop their leaves. The amount of leaf being dropped is what worries me most for the koalas.
I'm glad there are thousands of young trees as they may end up killing some of them browsing them out. I don't mind that if it gets the koalas through as the mature trees will drop seed to replace them.
It's quite complex.
Yesterday I didn’t think your photos could get any better. I was wrong! This is just the most gorgeous one yet. Another zillion fav’s.
I do hope you get rain soon. It’s bad here but nothing compared to where you are. Thinking of you.
Heartwarming yet frightening shot of what such severe drought may precede. The tenderness and care that you've captured moves me. Thank you. I pray that your predicament may be swiftly relieved.
That is so cute. The forcast is apparently for an El Nino season coming up, so it will be even dryer l suppose. Already up here there is significant eucalyptus leaf drop..
