Patterns in Nature

I have no idea what the name of this creature is but I found a couple of empty shells on the beach today. I thought it would work for the patterns in nature theme. It's so much better viewed large!

It's a sea urchin ( http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sea_urchin). There's lots of different kinds. Their shells are beautiful - the fact that you can find them on your beach is great ... can't remember the last time I've seen one!

This is a fabulous shot, K. Sea urchins are very common to find on the beaches of south Africa.... I used to have so many that I collected as a kid...including the tiniest of tiny ones that I had on my printer's tray collection. They're so lovely.

really nice low key (i think that's the term) shot....very simple...and yes it is a sea urchin .....they are beautiful live, but also you have shown they are beautiful dead too.....lol
