This used to belong to my Great Grandfather. It opens to hold matches. He came to Canada from England in 1903 to be the Provincial Inspector of Manual Schools. He was very much into photography as well and was an accomplished painter.
What a lovely object ! I also have kept some tiny little things from my grand parents or from their own parents ....I love to think of it like family treasures.
This is so beautiful, such a lovely keepsake. I have a match container that belonged to my grandad, but it is made of leather. Still has the wax matches in it too.
@kwind That's interesting! The match holder itself must have come from Ireland though, with all those shamrocks? I guess you don't know more about its history, do you?
