Wow... last night and early this morning were unlike anything we've seen while living on the beach. The winds were crazy and the tide was high! Logs were flying and we now have more wood on our lawn & wild grass than we have on the actual beach. We had an electrical plug attached to three logs that were wrapped in rope at the very edge of the grass/beach. You can see how at first it was just surrounded by water and then eventually crashed and buried. The wooden tree you see in the one shot is gone!! The shot with the house was taken later as I stood just on the start of the sand. We have a lot of work ahead of us making a new path! I felt safe the whole time and was in awe!! I only wish I could have gotten better pictures but it was dark at first and then very wet with rain.
Check out a fellow 365er (@sstcowan) from Campbell River's shot of the storm this morning. This house is about 1.5km from my place but built WAY closer to the beach than us.... http://365project.org/sstcowan/365/2016-03-10
Oh no not your drift wood tree... well you have lots of material to make another .. I guess it is the price you pay for living in such a beautiful place.. We live on top of a hill that has fantastic views .. but not so good when the wind get up.. Hope it gets cleaned up without to much hassle..
Woow ! what a storm -- glad you are all sate ! Super shots to put us in the picture ! Aaw ! the wooden tree gone !! never mind you have plenty more drift wood and I hope your path will be repaired without too much hard work !
Wow! That is a lot of debris that washed up on your shore. I'm glad to hear you are safe and sound and that you didn't have any damage to your house. The clean up looks like it will take some time.
Thanks for the "plug"! It was really dark this morning when I was driving home from Comox, so the photo's are grainier than I would like. The road south of town had debris from waves coming across the road. Love your collage!
Fantastic captures of your wild storm! it is so hard to be out trying to capture it - you've done a great job :) Glad all is ok but for the mess you have to clean up now! Fav
@sstcowan I use Picmonkey to make my collages. It's a free website (some of the features you have to pay for but it's not very expensive) and very user friendly. There's TONS of stuff you can do on it. Sometimes I edit a single photo and other times make collages.
These are just amazing - that was quite a storm - Can't believe how powerful those waves and wind were - that's some major damage they created. Glad to hear you and your friend are ok - looks like some clean-up though. Loved your pictures.
Tremendous power of nature, well depicted in your collage. So glad that your family is safe. I am sorry to see that your driftwood tree may be at risk. :(
Such a dramatic set of images -- the one in the middle left especially conveys the power of the storm. I'd seen the other photo, but hadn't realized how close the two of you were to each other. Would be unnerving, I suspect, to watch and listen as the storm occurred.
Of all the photos, my eye went right to your tree and my first thought was "Oh NO!" That's amazing! I saw Sheri's photo, too, and will go back to comment! That's some kind of serious weather! Thanks for sharing it with us! (And send *just a little* down south, our way!)
When I posted on this yesterday I didn't look close enough to see all the destruction. Shame on me. The pictures are beautiful but it is sad to see how devastating mother nature can be.
That sounds like some storm. So glad you are safe and sound. We often forget how nature is not as tame as we think it is. Then we get a reminder like this one. Excellent collage- and relieved to know you were all out of harm's way.
Great collage to show what happened!
