Today has not been fun and it's not over yet! We got to Vancouver last night and slept at my sister's house. Well, that's a bit of a lie. Too many things on my mind and I didn't fall asleep until midnight and then woke wide awake at 4:10am. My son and I left at 6:40 AM and drove in the pitch dark and pouring rain into the city for his infusion at BC Children's Hospital. It was not a nice drive! His infusion started much faster than normal and we met a new doctor to discuss his treatment. By this time there was a blizzard happening outside and the nurses removed his IV only to be told moments later he needed another blood test. There's some strange rule that the nurses can't draw blood unless they draw it through the IV. So we waited half an hour for a lab tech to come and do the procedure before we could leave. It was 11:10 and we were hoping to get the 12:30 ferry home. Normally the trip takes about 35 minutes from the hospital. Today, because of the weather, it took two hours and 40 minutes!! There was total grid ock downtown!! Needless to say, we did not make our ferry. I am currently sitting on the boat now. We will not make it to Vancouver Island until nearly 5pm where there is even more snow. It's normally a 1.5 hour drive home from there but I suspect it will take a lot longer. As you can imagine, I'm rather exhausted. This is a shot of us crawling over the Lions Gate Bridge.
Your title sure stated things well! I can't imagine how you were even able to type that! Many hugs and hoping for a better rest tonight for you and your son. Surely tomorrow will be a better day (if you can stay home). Like the shot by the way - tells the story.
I can't even imagine driving through this kind of weather. (We live in southern CA.) A horrible day you've had, for sure. Sending prayers for safe travels and for you and your son.
Oh my. So sorry. Some days everything goes wrong. I so hope your son’s medical problems can improve, and that all of these stumbling blocks will have been worth the trouble they have caused. Hopefully you will get home and you can both rest tonight.
Oh dear what a terrible day you have had. I do hope that your son can find a cure for his medical problems soon, it must be so wearing and worrying on all the family.
I think that's the storm that's heading my way, hitting tomorrow (Thursday). Sorry it caused so much stress for you. Your photo depicts exactly what part of your day looked like. Nicely done.
What a horrible day for you and it's not over yet. I hope by the time you're reading this comment you are settled in with a cup of tea and able to relax for a bit. Your image captures the frustration of the day.
Oh Kim, sorry to hear about your long and painful day. We've had so much snow here today as well, they had to close the road to town as some trucks broke down and jackknifed on it. Luckily for me I didn't have to go out. Thank goodness you don't have many days like this to deal with. I hope tomorrow is nice and relaxing for you all x
What a horrid day for you and your son! Hope you are home now and nice and warm. it's so hard for me to even imagine being caught in snow storms etc. Sending warm wishes to you :)
What a horrible day all round. You must both be exhausted. I do hope you have a better time of it from now on. I'm sure many people will be thinking of your son and wishing him well.
It does sound like a shitty day! Hopefully, by the time you read this, it will all be a nasty memory. I thought of you yesterday, as I was sitting in a hospital waiting room with my Mom, watching a tv weatherman talking about snow in your part of the country.
Most of the photos and words on 365 paint a picture of life at it's best. Thank you for sharing your horrible day. Thinking of you and your son and hoping that now back home life is looking a lot better.
That sounds like a long and frustrating trip. I don’t know how to drive in snow but I have been to Vancouver and Victoria...beautiful. I hope the tests for your son goes well though...get some rest.
