Deadheads are dangerous logs that float just above the surface of the water but go deep. If a boat were to hit one, it could cause a lot of damage to the boat and/or prop. Sometimes people flag them so other boaters will be aware of their existence and avoid hitting them. We spotted this one on our weekend kayak adventure.
@sangwann I'm not sure what happened there either. Maybe it was starting a new reflection on the bottom. It's a mystery.
@jackies365 Deadheads float vertically up and down. That's what makes them so dangerous. We have logs laying horizontal all over the place (forestry is huge here and there's log booms with escapees) which we have to watch out for when driving as well but they are much more obvious. These hidden deadheads are the scary ones because 95% of the danger is underwater and unseen.
