trying to take photos of photos

I spent the day trying to set up my camera equipment to work as a scanner so I can scan some of the thousands of prints I accumulated before digital. This is supposed to be a faster way, but I'm just not convinced yet. It's sure hard on my back!
Very interesting set-up. I don't see the camera. Were the results good?

Very interesting, did you manage to log at least some?

@anazad511 The camera is supposed to hang down from the center inverted post. It's not hanging straight though, because of the weight of the camera and lens maybe? The ball head won't allow it to be 90 degrees because of the placement of a tightening screw.

As for results, it's better than my desktop scanner but not by much. And it takes up a lot more room than my scanner!

@susie1205 I copied one photograph in about 6 hours of research and tinkering. Haven't given up yet!

I have a device which scans my old prints and slides directly into my computer. Everything from childhood, even old ancestors, went in with only a couple of hours. Can you source something like that?

yeah, it doesn't look or sound like it would be much faster ~ seems like a lot of work, actually! Good luck with that. I've been scanning and editing old photos for a while now too ~ very time consuming process, for sure!

Very interesting set up. I admire your patience. I use a scanner and edit the photos. It really is a time consuming work.

Interesting set-up. I agree with everyone - it seems to be time-consuming, no matter how you do it!

Yes, a task that needs MUCH patience. I did one trip my husband did in 1992, scanned etc etc it took so much time. Good luck..
