Success!

This is the camera set up to scan thousands of photos belonging to my grandfather, parents, and maybe a few I took before digital. I come from a long line of snappers! I have my camera mounted on a tripod with the center pole reversed. Macro lens, cheap lamps, metal note board so that I can hold the photos down with magnets. I am using a remote shutter release and am tethered to Lightroom on my computer. It's really fast to pop the photo in, check the screen to be sure it's centered, and then go on to the next one. It's not the most elegant system, but I didn't have to buy anything and I'm really cheap. :-)
glad you got it figured out. wondered how you kept the photos flat, but magnets sound like a perfect solution. :)

I'm impressed by your perseverance, Linda. It's great knowing you're preserving a long social history.

Don't you have a scanner on your printer? This looks like it would be hard to do.

@sailingmusic, I do have a scanner but this way is faster and gives me a RAW file that can be edited more easily. A lot of these photos need extensive editing, which is the next hurdle I need to jump.

Fantastic setup. I do it with the scanner, but I will have to try it this way.

Where there's a will, there's a way...I'd rather take the cheaper way too!

That is very clever! What a fun project!

Very clever! I have a scanner but it takes forever. This might be a lot quicker once set-up. We have TONS of picutres to scan.
